About Eventing

The demands of this equestrian triathlon were patterned after the training and testing of military chargers - precision, elegance and obedience on the parade ground; cross-country jumping ability and endurance in traveling great distances over difficult terrain and formidable obstacles; and finally, jumping ability in the arena to prove the horse's fitness to remain in service.

Today, the tests are:

  • Dressage on the first day, to show balance, obedience, flexibility and harmony between horse and rider;
  • Cross Country on the second day, to test stamina, versatility, courage, boldness and speed;
  • Stadium jumping on the third day, to demonstrate conditioning, resilience and agility.
