History of the Festival

Fair Hill International is a spectacular event that had its debut in 1989. It is an outgrowth of the Chesterland Three-Day Event in Unionville, PA, but when the property was no longer available for use a new organization was formed by president Trish Gilbert and named Fair Hill International. The Fair Hill property in Northern Maryland was chosen to host the event because of its natural beauty and cross-country courses that have been hailed by horsemen from around the world.

In 1989 the inaugural event was host to twenty-three competitors and won by Nos Ecus owned by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thompson. Since that time the event has become one of two Three Star rated events in the U.S. (CCI***) as well as being the quadrennial qualifier for the Olympic Games and the World Equestrian Games.
